Fishin' for Free

Quinn and Erick headed off to the Bonneville Fish Hatchery for the Free Fishing Day that Fish & Wildlife holds every year. This is becoming a little tradition for us; they went last year as well, and came home with six fish.

I stayed home and Erick did a great job of taking pictures. The kids had to go through ten stations, the first six in order to actually fish for trout. According to Daddy, Quinn was very patient with the crowds of people and the waiting in line.

He got a little professional casting advice from "Matt". He was a bit of a natural. These things run in families.

They took a break to check out the fish ladder.

These fish were the ones the kids were casting for. By the time Quinn got there they were a little jittery. I can only imagine - all these people, throwing bait into the water, hour after hour. This entire pond is going to need trauma counseling.

A new friend.
And, success!!! Why the child insisted on wearing his hat so low is beyond me.

And you have to take advantage of the free snacks. I mean, rootbeer!

Time to head home. Fish on ice - check. All the fishing propoganda - check. Fun day with dad - big check.

A breather for mom. Double check.

Looks like a blast! Did they get to see Herman the Sturgeon? He's my favorite - such a cute prehistoric fish. =)
