The counselors were very good and tried to get him involved and keep him involved. They know him from two weeks of other camps, but they have a bunch of other kids to keep track of and didn't have the time to spend coaxing Quinn for two hours. One on one or small groups are definately more his speed.
I know too many kids who are seriously athletic, tearing up the soccer field, riding their bikes like pros. I've had to remind myself that this is My Kid, so I shouldn't be surprised that he is so much like me and his Dad. He will consider, he will ponder, he will understand then make his move. He will read deeply into all situations, make up his mind about it, then dive in. He will be a leader, this child, but not before he has had the chance to figure out how things tick; he will have an intuitive understanding. He is so interested in other kids, and tries so hard to be kind to them. He notices the smallest change in them, comments on it, and compliments them. Such a sweet heart. Such a sweet boy.
So even if I had moments of disappointment that he isn't that kid racing about with his shin guards and dribbling like a pro, there is plenty to be satisfied with.
That's not to say we aren't going to try something else. Like aikido.
And we'll try soccer again next year. Just to see. You never know.
