Free

Imagine my surprise when one of my brothers calls me yesterday and tells me that my father was being released. If you've been keeping up you know that my dad was in cardiac ICU for over two weeks, then in the acute care ward for over a week. He just two days ago got his feeding tube out and started eating on his own.

Apparently, that's your ticket to ride.

Now, dad says he feels 100% better every day. He was bopping all over the floor, making laps to strengthen his muscles and work on his balance. It was an amazing improvement.

But the release came out of nowhere. The last thing we heard was that we needed to get his Medicaid figured out so they could make the referral to a rehab place. Then there was the question "When can you come pick him up?". Ugh.

We hadn't planned on it happening so quickly. So for now he's staying in my brother's very crowded house until more plans can be made. Here I sit, able to do little.

Now there is a lot of blood tests during the week to check medication levels and to make sure his heart is working correctly. There are still plans for him to go to the toasty warm state of Arizona to recuperate, but there are so many details to be worked out.

Did I mention a Lull lately? Silly me.
