We headed out. From where we are in Portland getting to the mall isn't a quick maneuver, so we tried a new route and got to experience all Portland traffic has to offer. I just wheezed and giggled as Quinn yelled out all the car makes he saw.
The Jantzen Beach mall is, to say the least, deserted and sad. It's just south of the I-5 bridge to Vancouver and it used to be a mecca. Now almost all the stores inside are empty and it seems like a ghost town. I think the Target keeps it all working. The carousel is in the food court. If you can call it that. Six fast food places does not a food court make in my opinion, but we weren't there for food. We were there to Ride.
The teenaged carousel operator (he had the acne to proove it) had trouble coming up with the key to start the ride, so that gave Quinn time to get super concerned about falling off his chosen horse. It was a death grip.
Once we started he relaxed. The thing really moves fast, and the up and down of the horses while trying to take pictures made for a couple of dizzy moments for me. So, that kills the 'do something that won't make me dizzy' plan.
