Turkeys

What a mellow Thanksgiving we had! My brother Kurt (known as 'Uncle Dirt' to Quinn) came down from Seattle with his girlfriend, Summer. They were here only a couple of hours before we headed out to my walking partner, Kim's house for dinner. We were joined by another couple and their three kids, each one more blond and more adorable than the last.

Becca, nine months old, was a source of unending fascination for Quinn, who has a thing for babies (which includes anyone that is smaller than himself). Becca was a very mellow baby, which seemed to go with the theme of the evening.

Even when the deep fried turkey had to be re-immersed to complete cooking, all were smiles and filled the time with another spiked egg nog. All were happy.

The lull between turkey and dessert was short. Too short for some...

After sleeping off the turkey and trimmings, Quinn wanted to show Uncle Dirt and Summer his favorite ducks. Since we took along two bags of corn, the ducks had a feast of their own.

After this picture the seat of Quinn's jeans were soaked and he insisted that we get home to take care of the problem.

Friday night was leftovers (that Ididn't even have to cook in the first place- nirvana!) and the ham Quinn would have preferred for Thanksgiving dinner. Before bedtime, Quinn got Uncle Dirt to help him make the Planets out of balloons. Each one was a different color and they did them in order. They wrote the name of the planet and Quinn helped Uncle Dirt spell the names correctly. It's not every kid that has a Milky Way of balloons in their room...

And tonight we were able to go outside (obstensively to look at the neighbor's Christmas light Extravaganza and listen to the music that went with it) and see the crescent moon along with Venus and Jupiter. Very fitting as we are now fascinated by the planets; let me say that there are things that come up that set parents to studying - bad thing to have your 4-year old know the order of the planets and you, well, don't.

This week, more preschool days, more job searching and interview prep for me. Oh, the joys of the season!
